Elon Musk on subsidies: Tesla 4th gen. will be more affordable

Speaking at the Grønn Omstilling conference in Oslo on Friday, Elon Musk responded to a question if there will be cheaper Tesla cars on the road in the future and here is what he had to say:
"...there will be future cars that are even more affordable down the road, but with something like the Model 3, it's designed such that roughly half the people can afford the car. And then, with fourth generation and smaller cars, we'll ultimately be in the position where everyone will be able to afford the car."
He went on addressing the subject of how heavily subsidized fossil fuel cars are by pointing out the external subsidies these cars benefit from, mainly 6 trillion dollars per year of subsidies the oil and gas companies get, and the subsidy on the negative effect on the environment: "This is economics 101... whenever you have an unpriced externality, essentially where the use of a product causes long term damage to the environment, that is a true cost and if that cost is not incorporated into the price of petroleum then it is effectively a subsidy".
