Speaking at the Grønn Omstilling conference in Oslo today, Elon Musk announced that Model 3 reservations are almost 400,000.
Elon also hinted that Tesla is working on a mass transit system that would solve the density problem in intercity situations and reshape the concept of public transport by having a new type of car taking people to their final destination and "not just to the bus stop".
When discussing the future of Tesla's Autopilot, he reminded the audience on the advantages of autonomous driving in regards to the level of safety, as it learns from billions of kilometers of driving, will be significantly better than non-autonomous driving and will satisfy regulators and the public's concern about how safe it is:
"The probability of having an accident is 50% lower if you have Autopilot on. Even with our first version. So we can see basically what’s the average number of kilometers to an accident – accident defined by airbag deployment. Even with this early version, it’s almost twice as good as a person."
