[Video] This is how effective Bioweapons Defense Mode in a Tesla Model S

While Tesla was striving for five star safety ratings in every category to protect occupants from accidents in its vehicles, it felt compelled to protect them against the statistically more relevant hazard of air pollution too. Elon Musk credited the idea of Bioweapons Defense Mode to Larry Page saying "Filtering particulates from air makes a significant & measurable difference to health."

When President of Global Sales and Service Jon McNeill was at the Beijing Automobile Exhibition launching the Model X in China, he demonstrated an experiment in Beijing to see how many parts per million Model X fares to the outside air quality. When Bioweapons Defence mode was on, particles per million went down from 320 to 8ppm.

When turned on it removes pollen, viruses, bacteria and pollution much like a hospital operating room quality in the cabin. 800 times cleaner than outside the cabin. The safest place to sleep in Beijing may be in the model X.

Since its introduction earlier this year, we've heard nothing but positive things about the Bioweapons Defense Mode from new owners of Model S and X. Perhaps one of the best - and funny - demonstrations we've encountered comes from two times Tesla Referral Program winner Bjørn Nyland. Bjørn recently borrowed a Model S 70D from Tesla to test some of its new features, one of them is to see - or rather smell - how effective Bioweapons Defense Mode against the smell of Durian.

Durian is Southeast Asian fruit known for its strong and pungent odor. Its smell evokes reactions from deep appreciation to intense disgust, and has been described variously as rotten onions, turpentine, and raw sewage. The persistence of its odor, which may linger for several days, has led to the fruit's banishment from certain hotels and public transportation in Southeast Asia.

Taking a risk and putting it to the test inside a Tesla Model S equipped with Bioweapons Defense Mode, Bjorn was very skeptical if the HEPA filter will be able to eradicate the lingering smell of a Durian.
Surprisingly the filter was able to suck out the remaining Durian particles in the car within seconds. restoring the interior's smell back to its new original state.
